Hello and happy Friday! Another week survived. Hope it was a good one for you! It was a busy one for me, especially with the holiday on Monday here in the US, and with my kids wrapping up their school years this week. My oldest is even done with high school as of today, which is hard to wrap my head around.
Unfortunately building-wise this was a pretty light week. I committed from the beginning that I would do no coding this week (which I MOSTLY adhered to), and would instead focus my efforts on marketing my sticker chart app.
For this week, this consisted of me doing some tinkering around in Meta Business Suite, setting up Facebook and Instagram pages for the app, and then writing and promoting a couple of posts I put together.
First of all, Meta Business Suite is a real turd. It feels like most of the Facebook ecosystem, which is clunky, and held together with nails, and hopes and dreams. The systems all feel disparate, and like they don’t actually work well with each other. The interface sucks, and I run into errors all the time, even when I’m doing totally innocuous things like creating a new page. I also randomly get flagged when doing normal stuff as “suspicious activity.” For example, I had to verify my payment details for some reason before I was allowed to publish a second ad, and when I tried to verify my payment details, I received an error. 🤷
But it has been fun, thinking of ways to market the app. I had a plan in mind to follow a simple checklist, specifically with regards to how I post from the Instagram account, but I haven’t really put that into action this week. Instead I’ve just been trying to write copy that I think will engage people and eventually help make sales.
I’ve also been messing around with the ads on Facebook a bit. It’s kinda fun to boost the reach of your content with just a few dollars, and even though the result has only been a handful of clicks, it’s neat to know that people are seeing my content out there when they might not otherwise have done so. I’m keeping my ad-testing to a minimum, however, and I plan to pick back up my original plan to promote on Instagram early next week. I really want to limit the money I’m spending, period.
Unfortunately that’s really it for this week! My focus for right now is on preparing for a vacation I’m going on starting 6/10. For this stuff that will mean writing some content to queue up while I am out, including some posts on FB and Instagram for app promotion, plus I’ve got to prepare to take over a week off at my actual job (which is, thankfully, not too difficult to do). Hope you enjoy your weekend, and we’ll talk next week!
